Tracking the life of Telstar — the first satellite to transmit images through space — Jon E Price's conceptual film combines footage of the fragments of the monuments left, the architecture that facilitated the interception of their signals. Alongside the footage custom type was developed that connected the films concept with the artistic inspirations behind Jon's film.

Taken from the NASA archive, we can see the launch balloon that helped launch these experimental vessels into space for testing. Adorned with custom type, largely produced by hand by the NASA engineers at this scale I used this as a starting point to develop a typeface that inherited this mathematical awkwardness, eschewing traditional type techniques to produce letterforms that felt inspired by both the original source material and the forms of the architecture left behind. Alongside the drawn type were in film text and a screen printed film poster.
